Louis Pelligrini returned to the podium for Hope Hospice. He ad ssed the concerns stated:
Hours: He said staff has considered working additional hours so th y can remain open
longer and possibly on weekends. He could not guarantee what tho hours would be, but
they would seriously look into additional hours. Drop-offs: He sai they do not accept
drop-offs, even at the present location. He said he has seen the pic res, but these are
pictures of items they are transporting to other locations. As stated previously, they do not
have enough space inside to store these items. He said in order to sure that items are not
scattered about, they would have someone check after hours and on Sundays. He felt they
could be compatible with other downtown businesses and that they ould be bringing
customers who would also frequent those businesses.

Further discussion ensued between Mr. Pelligrini and the Commissi n.

Commissioner Mahern suggested that an off-site be used for drop-o s and sorting. Mr.
Pelligrini said it would be too costly to try and accommodate that fi ture.

Mr. Pelligrini responded to comments in regard to the pictures take of merchandise at the
present location. He noted that these items were at the back of the tore and not visible from
the street.

Commissioner Wright suggested that Hope Hospice make it clear th t donations could not be
left at the store, either in the front or the back. Mr. Pelligrini not this is already done,
even in advertising. However, he could not guarantee that donation would not be left.
They do not have a drop-off box and do not intend to have one.

Chairman Hovingh was concerned about closing at 4:00 p.m. and fi t that occasionally
people cleaning their garage may just decide to bring things and lea e them. He felt that
staying open until later might solve a portion of that problem.

Staff again pointed out to the Commission that if the store creates p blems, that the use
permit can be revoked. It was also pointed out that the business's d wntown would certainly
be monitoring the situation.

Mr. Pelligrini read comments from adjacent businesses to his curren location. Zorn's,
Lydia's, and Best Friends Pet Shop all stated that Hope Hospice hav been excellent
neighbors; that they have increased traffic and business to their stor , and they were sorry
to see them leave.

mE PUBLIC HEARING WAS CWSED.

Mr. Swift clarified Condition 4 and said staff is not trying to force e applicant to stay open
from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday through Sunday, but is simply giving them the option
of remaining open for those hours. However, the Commission can ondition the hours they
want.

Planning Commission Minutes April 14, 1993

Page 8
