<br />UP-92-27. America's Best Karate. Inc. <br />Application for a conditional use permit to allow the operation of a Tae Kwon Do <br />martial arts studio in the Amador Valley Shopping Center locate at 1745 Santa Rita <br />Road. Zoning for the property is C-N (Neighborhood Commerci 1) District. <br /> <br />Mr. Swift presented the staff report recommending approval of Case UP-92-27 subject to the <br />conditions of the staff report. <br /> <br />Commissioner Mahern commented that they have approved at least t <br />in the past; she questioned whether they are still open. They have a <br />total of over 1,500 students. They operate their school on a more usiness oriented basis, <br />rather than as a club situation. He noted they like to have their sc ools in an area where the <br />adjoining businesses are a support for one another. He felt the I tion he chose in the <br />Amador Plaza Shopping Center would be a good one. He stated h has read the staff <br />conditions and concurs will all of them. <br /> <br />Vice Chairman McGuirk asked if the applicant has sponsored tou aments. Mr. Chan <br />replied they do not at this point. He said the sport is designed mo e to develop self-esteem <br />and self-discipline, but that it can be done on a competitive level. However, he said their <br />hands are full at this time with simply teaching the art.
