Planning Commi....ion review of staff's interpretation of e Municipal Code <br />deC"mition of "household pets" with regard to pot-belly p. <br /> <br />Mr. Swift presented the staff report providing background regarding the Vietnamese pot-belly <br />pig owned by Ms. Karen Juarez, 324 W. Angela Street, and reques ng that the Planning <br />Commission confirm staffs interpretation of the Municipal Code wi regard to the definition <br />of "household pets" as it relates to pot-belly pigs. <br /> <br />THE PUBLIC HEARING WAS OPENED. <br /> <br />Ms. Karen Juarez, 324 W. Angela, stated that she has had her-pig r two and one-half <br />years. She had received a ticket from the police department for ki ing a farm animal, but <br />was later told that not to worry about the ticket as there had been n complaint. Chairman <br />Mahern asked Ms. Juarez if she is the owner of the property where he lives and the pig is <br />kept. Ms. Juarez responded that she is the property owner. In r nse to additional <br />questions regarding the property, Ms. Juarez advised that she owns ree lots, two which are <br />approximately 50'XSO' and one which is about loo'xSO'. She also ted that the properties <br />are contiguous. She further advised that she bought the pig ("Wilbu ") when it was a piglet <br />and that it has been neutered. She indicated that Wilbur has not b weighed, but she <br />thinks he weighs about 200 pounds. <br /> <br />Ms. Juarez explained that a complaint regarding Wilbur was made ter a building on her <br />property which was partially completed prior to her purchasing the roperty was torn down. <br />She stated that she had complied with the ruling that the structure h to be removed within <br />60 days. Ms. Juarez responded to additional questions of the Com ission, advising that <br />Wilbur no longer comes into the house because he is too large. She said he is well trained <br />and she provides a section of the yard with dirt, mud, and a pig sty f hay for Wilbur.
