6D
THE CITY OF

l>L£ AS&NTON= CityCouncil
Staff Report

May 17, 2005
Parks and Community Services

SUBJECT: UPDATE ON CITY RELATED TENNIS SERVICES AND
APPROVAL OF AN AGREEMENT WITH LIFETIME TENNIS TO
MANAGE OPERATIONS AT TENNIS AND COMMUNITY PARK

STAFF RECOMMENDATION:

That the City Council take the following actions at its meeting of May 17:

1. Request that the Parks and Recreation Commission review and
provide recommendations regarding the potential lighting of tennis courts at
Pleasanton Middle School, and possible implementation of an "on demand"
tennis reservation system utilizing existing tennis courts at Foothill and
Amador Valley high schools; and

2. Approve the attached agreement with Lifetime Tennis to manage the
tennis operations at Tennis and Community Park, and authorize the City
Manager to execute the contract on behalf of the City.

SUMMARY: As a result of recent discussions at several City Council meetings
concerning a perceived lack of tennis courts in Pleasanton, the City/School
District Liaison Committee discussed a number of alternatives for
addressing the issue at its meeting of April 21, 2005. It was suggested that
possible options might include installing court lighting at the two (2)
existing tennis courts at Pleasanton Middle School, and possibly utilizing the
Foothill and Amador Valley high school courts through an "on demand"
system during times of heavy use. It is suggested that the Council request
the Parks and Recreation Commission to hold hearings on these items and
report back with its findings.

In addition, staff has negotiated a contract with Lifetime Tennis to manage
the ten (10) City owned courts located at Tennis and Community Park, 5801

SR 05:097
Page 1
