THE CITY OF 6B
pL£ AShNTON: city Council
Staff Report

May 17, 2005
Parks and Community Services

SUBJECT: REVIEW OF CONCEPT DESIGNS FOR DOWNTOWN PUBLIC
RESTROOMS, CIP 038030

STAFF RECOMMENDATION:

That the City Council take the following actions at its meeting of May 17,
2005:

1. Review and consider the conceptual designs and related information
for a public restroom structure in Delucchi Park as prepared by ELS
Architects;

2. Authorize staff to proceed with design of this project by selecting
either a custom designed or manufactured structure; and

3. As appropriate, authorize staff to either begin negotiating a design
contract with the selected architect for design of a custom restroom
structure, or similarly, to contact a number of prefabricated restroom
manufacturer's to begin the process of establishing a design for the
City's proposed public restroom in Delucchi Park.

SUMMARY: When the City Council recently selected the southwest corner of Delucchi
Park near W. Angela Street as its preferred site for a new public restroom in
the Downtown area, staff was directed to return with a report that identified
the opportunities and differences between a custom designed and
prefabricated or "manufactured" structure. This report, along with simple
presentation graphics and cost opinions provided by staff, attempts to
describe and provide an objective comparison of the two (2) types of
structures.

SR 05:126
Page 1
