Original Message .....
From: Stephen Page [mailto:ichannel@comcast.net]
Sent: Monday, April 11, 2005 3:58 PM
To: Terry Snyder
Cc: ichannel@comcast.net
Subject: Re: Comments for the Bernal Property meeting

Terry,
Thanks for your response.
For the past ten years, I have consistently voiced this same concern
to the City Council and Planning Department (through Brian Swift), who
has repeatedly assured me that the Planning Commission was doing
everything that it could to build a park to accommodate the children in
this Southern sector whose interests have been neglected and
disregarded. I have made this point on a number of occasions at
Council meetings. The problem appears to be that there exists a
difference of opinion (or focus) on the part of the City of
Pleasanton's direction and management, vis-a-vis the interests of young
children and parents.
The difference of opinion has flowed from the top of city government
down. As a person seeking to provide services to the City as a
consultant, I was encouraged by Mayor Tarver to submit a proposal
regarding how to structure a Youth Master Plan. My keen interest in
the accessibility-to-facilities apparently runs counter to the
interests of the City Manager, whose family lives behind the closed
gates of Ruby Hill, apparently. Ms. Acosta chose to sole-source the
contract to a company from outside Pleasanton without even allowing
anyone else to submit a proposal. Preventing anyone other than her
hand-picked consultant to have any input into the Youth Master Plan
process is inconsistent with the principles of good government, and
this is a fact recognized universally, yet, she stood by her decision
even when presented with that fact.
Last year, I attempted to create a solution to the lack of access by
offering to be a volunteer for the City (er paid employee, whatever
worked best), in order to open the gyms at PMS and possibly Hearst
School during off-peak hours (including early morning), but no one has
responded to my offer.
Once again, this year I approached PUSD about volunteering to teach
basketball skills and they referred me to Principal Mike Kuhfal of
Hearst School who referred me to the Adult Education Principal, who

http://us.f511 .mail.yahoo.com/ym/ShowLetter?box=Inbox&MsgId=7616_84576240_7917... 4/13/2005
