Alameda County Transportation Improvement Authority
Special Transportation for Seniors and People with Disabilities

Narrative Response for C and D above:
As part of the annual planning process, PPS users are currently completing a
program/service evaluation. Over 800 surveys were sent out to riders on March 1, 2005,
with a completion date of March 31, 2005. A summary of the findings will be included in
the ACTIA end of year report. Anyone completing this survey will receive a free
paratransit ride.

Staff also presented Tri-Valley statistical information to the PPS Task Force at its
January 21, 2005 meeting. The PPS Task Force members wanted to understand the future
demographic trends affecting paratransit services. For PPS, there has been a consistent
and steady 5% increase in service demand each year. With 10.9% (6,940 residents over
60 years of age), Pleasanton continues to age. 1,632 of those 65 plus living in P1easanton
are disabled. Approximately 19.5% of the households have individuals 65 years and
older. These demographics will continue to impact the need for paratransit services in
suburban areas such as Pleasanton.

Staff completed a report on the implications of two new health care providers in the PPS
service area. This report assisted staff in projecting the demand for services to these areas
and allowed for adjustments to the paratransit schedules.

An example of how the planning process is connected to the service plan involved the
purchase of three (3) new vehicles. Through customer feedback, staff purchased buses
that better met clients' needs.

The PPS service area was expanded in FY 2004-05 to include two (2) new medical
facilities. Through careful planning, PPS staffwas able to meet the clients' need for rides
to these new health care facilities.

· What needs or priorities have been identified that will be met by proposed service
changes?

· What needs or pfiorities will still not be met even after implementing proposed service
changes?

· How many potential riders do you estimate will use this service this coming fiscal
year?

Response:
The City of Pleasanton Paratransit Task Force continues to evaluate the service delivery
system and clients' needs. With over 67% City General Fund support, it is critical that the
service meets residents~ needs.

Some service changes that occurred in FY 2004-05 that benefited riders included:

· Purchase of three (3) replacement vehicles to maintain quality services.
