- of the proposed signage mocked up on the window. He described the process used to
determine 25-percent coverage of the window and noted that they ensured the signage
would meet that limit.
THE PUBLIC HEARING WAS CLOSED.
In response to an inquiry by Chairperson Roberts regarding the difference in Code
requirements for temporary and permanent signage, Ms. Kline confirmed that the same
process would be followed. She added that the Commission may make the signage
temporary by allowing it for a certain period of time.
Commissioner Fox noted that she had counted 102 letters on the sign and would like to
ensure that a business taking over a building may work with the City to revise a
monument sign. She understood the need for the business owner to publicize other
services than is appazent by the business name. She did not believe 1021etters were
appropriate for window signage and suggested that the business work with the City to
improve its monument sign. She would not be able to support the motion in its entirety.
Commissioner Blank expressed concern about approving a permanent installation,
particulazly before the Commission considered potential rules and regulations for window
signage.
_ Chairperson Roberts noted that she would prefer fewer letters and believed that if the
signage would be up on a permanent basis, that number of letters would be inappropriate.
She was willing to allow the business to get off the ground with that signage for
120 days. She noted that vinyl lettering could become permanent.
Commissioner Roberts moved to approve PSDR-218 as conditioned in the staff
report.
There was no second.
Commissioner Fox moved to approve PSDR-218, as conditioned in the staff report,
with the modification that the applicant choose and display only two of the three
sign components.
Commissioner Roberts seconded the motion.
ROLL CALL VOTE
AYES: Commissioners Blank, Fox, and Roberts.
NOES: None.
ABSTAIN: None.
RECUSED: None.
ABSENT: Commissioners Arkin and Maas.
Resolution No. PC-2004-68 was entered and adopted as motioned.
PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES, December 8, 2004 Page 8 of 19
