7. MATTERS INITIATED BY COMMISSION MEMBERS
RecvclinQ Center
Commissioner Maas inquired whether the big truck container that served as a recycling
center in the Albertson's parking lot went through design review approval.
Ms. Kline replied that the City used to approve temporary conditional use permits for
small recycling centers in the late 80's/early 90's. She advised that she would look into it
and report back to the Commission.
Commissioner Maas noted that the center has permanent lights that are left on all night.
Asphalt Batch Plant
Chairperson Roberts reported that there would be another meeting at 1:00 p.m. on
Monday, November 1, 2004 and added that she was a member of the committee, along
with Steve Brozosky, Kay Ayala, Sandra Lemmons, and Jerry Iserson. Three County
Commissioners who were residents in that area controlled those meetings, and
representatives from Granite Construction Company were in attendance. She added that
at one meeting, a representative from RMC Pacific Materials was in attendance, as well.
She noted that RMC Pacific Materials has been sold to Cemex, a Mexican cement
company. The committee of three Alameda County Commissioners decided it to draft a
_ memo of understanding where Granite would be given time to move when_the
construction of Neal School commenced. She noted that was not acceptable to the
residents or the City of Pleasanton. The City has been negotiating to avoid litigation.
She noted that several people took a tour of the facility. She noted that the Vulcan
facility was a newer and better facility, and its pollution equipment was superior to that of
Granite Construction Company. She noted that the Granite Construction Company plant
was moved from Tracy and that it would cost them $1.1 million to move it. She noted
that the Committee's proposal would be discussed at the next meeting. The City had
indicated at the last meeting that it would be continued so the Committee report may be
presented to the City Council. She noted that there was room on LoneStar to move it
next to Stanley Boulevard.
8. MATTERS FOR COMMISSION'S REVIEW/ACTION
a. Future Planning Calendar
There were none.
b. Actions of the City Council
Commissioner Fox inquired about the Council's action regarding the nine-foot monument
sign at U.S. Gas Station at Bernal Avenue and Stanley Boulevard. Ms. Kline advised that
the conditions for this sign were not changed, and the sign would be reduced in
PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES, October 27, 2004 Page 11 of 12
