Commissioner Kameny advised that he could not support this motion and emphasized
that this store was in a business park. He noted that there was no ordinance that
prohibited these signs and that they were presently allowed. He commended
Commissioners Fox and Arkin on their initiative in investigating other cities' standards.
He believed that it was important to help businesses as much as possible, and he did not
find this sign to be intrusive.
Chairperson Roberts would like to give "Just Tires" 120 days to display the sale sign,
after which it must be removed.
Commissioner Sullivan noted that he did not like the appearance of the sign and that it
did not blend with the Stanley Boulevard entrance to the City. He believed it would be
unfair of the City to prohibit this signage while neighboring stores had signage that was
more unattractive. He believed that the City's policy toward promotional signs should be
clarified and firmed up.
ROLL CALL VOTE:
AYES:
NOES:
ABSTAIN:
RECUSED
ABSENT:
The motion
Commissioners Arkin and Fox.
Commissioners Kazneny, Roberts, and Sullivan
None.
Commissioner Maas.
None.
did not carry.
Commissioner Roberts moved to limit the display of this sign to 120 days.
Commissioner Arkin seconded the motion.
ROLL CALL VOTE:
AYES: Commissioners Arkin, Fox, Kameny, Roberts, and Sullivan.
NOES: None.
ABSTAIN: None.
RECUSED: Commissioner Maas.
ABSENT: None.
Resolution No. PC-2004-62 was entered and adopted as motioned.
Commissioner Maas joined the Commission on the dais.
Commissioner Roberts moved to agendize a discussion of window signage with
respect to modifying the sign ordinance.
Commissioner Arkin seconded the motion.
PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES, October 13, 2004 Page 8 of 15
