ROLL CALL VOTE
AYES: Commissioners Arkin, Maas, Roberts, and Sullivan.
NOES: None.
ABSTAIN: None.
ABSENT: Commissioners Fox and Kameny.
Resolution No. PC-2004-31 was entered and adopted as motioned.
e. PAP-63. Aaaellant: Anne Fox (PSDR-182, Mike Szeredy/PeonleSoft)
Appeal of the Zoning Administrator's approval of a sign design review to change
the wording of the existing monument sign facing I-580, located at
4500 PeopleSoft Parkway, from "Hacienda" to "PeopleSoft," and to modify the
sign. Zoning for the property is PUD-I/C-O (Planned Unit Development -
Industrial/Commercial-Office) District.
Mr. Iserson summarized the staff report and detailed the history of the site and the
accompanying monument sign. He noted that the sign was approved by the Hacienda
Owners Association as well as by staff, with the condition that PeopleSoft return with a
landscape plan to better landscape azound the sign to improve the aesthetics from the
freeway. The basic dimensions of the sign as well as the colors and lettering would
remain the same. The reverse pan channel lettering would be backlit.
Commissioner Fox had expressed concern about changing this sign as the gateway to
Hacienda Park to an individual business name. Mr. Iserson noted that because the sign
was located on PeopleSoft property, the signage change would be in conformance with
the Hacienda design guidelines, and there was no preclusion from using this sign as a
business identification. Staff believed the signage would be appropriate.
In response to an inquiry by Commissioner Maas, Mr. Iserson noted that when this
information was conveyed to Commissioner Fox, she did not express interest in
withdrawing the appeal.
Staff recommended that the Planning Commission deny the appeal and uphold the
Zoning Administrator's approval of Case PSDR-182.
THE PUBLIC HEARING WAS OPENED.
Anthony Alfano, 4500 PeopleSoft Pazkway, representing the applicant on its Pleasanton
and Denver campuses, noted that he had agreed with staff s suggestion for additional
landscaping. He noted that with respect to Commissioner Fox's concern about the sign
size, they felt that the existing profile was adequate and blended in well with the existing
landscaping and the buildings. He noted that they had changed the main color and
removed the arch of Hacienda on that particular sign.
PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES May 12, 2004 Page 10 of 14
