In this case, Council would be recognizing Mr. Lure's <br />achievements and connection with this particular project, and she did not have a problem <br />with staff's recommendation. <br /> <br /> Mr. Brozosky pointed out that the Ballistic goccer organization was heavily <br />involved in the creation orVal Vista Park. He wondered if this organization might <br />expect something, and wondered at what point does one draw the line. <br /> <br /> Mayor Pieo mentioned that Council had discussed naming the clubhouse facility <br />afler Randy Lure and decided not to do so. He believed policies could not be created for <br />everything, and believed Council ought to be flexible enough to adapt. He did not see <br />this issue as being a part of the City's Policy for Naming Public Facilities. He believed <br />Council ought to have the right to decide if it wants to create some type of memorial to <br />someone, whether that person is a civic leader or an employee of the City. <br /> <br /> Ms. McKeehan noted that the only issue with respect to timing would be in <br />raising the necessary funds for whatever process is to occur in time for the opening of the <br />golf course. <br /> <br /> Mr. Brozosky asked who would be involved in the fundraising process? <br /> <br /> Ms. McKeehan mentioned that the City would not be involved in the fund raising <br />process; it would be private individuals. <br /> <br /> If Council proceeded to approve staff's recommendation, Ms. Ayala wondered if <br />it made sense to take this issue to the Parks and Recreation Commission for its review <br />and consideration as to whether it should be incorporated into the City's Policy for <br />Naming Public Facilities. She asked if this should be done prior to Council taking action <br />or after? <br /> <br /> Ms. McKeehan noted that this issue could be taken to the Parks and Recreation <br /> Commission either prior to Council action or afler Coundl action. <br /> <br /> Mayor Pico opened the matter for public comments. <br /> <br /> Jerry Wagner, 6344 Alisal Street, Pleasanton, spoke in opposition to staff's <br /> recommendation. <br /> <br /> Ed McGovem, a member of the Golf Course Committee, supported staff's <br /> recommendation. He mentioned that the Golf Course Committee had a tremendous <br /> amount of respect for Mr. Lum. He pointed out that Mr. Luna had been an advocate of the <br /> bypass road and could not be held responsible for the circumstances that caused the <br /> delay. He considered staff's recommendation a minimum tribute, and mentioned that <br /> many people believed that naming the golf course clubhouse in Mr. Lum's memory was <br /> not inappropriate.
