THE CITY OF <br /> <br />pL£AS&NTON <br /> <br />41 <br /> <br />City Council <br />Staff Report <br /> <br /> March 15, 2005 <br />Public Works Department <br /> <br />SUBJECT: <br /> <br />APPROVAL OF PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS, REVIEW OF <br />BIDS AND AWARD OF CONTRACT FOR WATER PRESSURE <br />REDUCING STATIONS ON VINEYARD AVENUE, PROJECT NO. <br />001026 <br /> <br />STAFF RECOMMENDATION: <br /> <br />Staff recommends that the City Council take the following action at the <br />meeting of March 15, 2005: <br /> <br />1. Approve the plans and specifications for this project. <br /> <br />Review the bids received and award the contract for the subject project <br />to Pacific Underground Services of Martinez, California, for a low bid <br />of $134,333. <br /> <br />3. Authorize the City Manager to enter into the above contract. <br /> <br />4. Authorize the Director of Public Works to approve and execute <br /> contract change orders for a contingency amount not to exceed <br /> $20,149 (15 %) for necessary related project work. <br /> <br />5. Appropriate an additional $82,500 from the Water Expansion Fund for <br /> this project. <br /> <br />SUMMARY: <br /> <br />Bids have been received for the subject project and staff is <br />recommending award of the construction contract to the low bidder, <br />Pacific Underground Services, in the amount of $134,333. The subject <br />project consists of installing two water pressure reducing stations to serve <br />the Shadow Cliffs Village subdivision south of Vineyard Avenue. <br />Currently this neighborhood is being served from the Lower Water Zone, <br />which has a water delivery pressure range of 38-60 psi in this area.
