· Nextel Phones & Hardware ($22,100) <br /> <br />This equipment will enhance the Department's efforts to provide a high level of service to the <br />community while supplementing the communications system during breakdowns and critical incidents. <br />The equipment increases efficiency by eliminating the need for personnel to return to the station to <br />follow-up on work related phone calls and enhances the quality of preliminary investigations by <br />allowing officers to immediately contact investigative resources while in the field. <br /> <br /> · Intemet Reporting Software ($20,000) <br /> <br />The police department's website has recently undergone dramatic improvements, offering a much <br />greater service to our community by way of the Intemet. This purchase is intended to provide hardware <br />and software to implement on-line Interact reporting. This program will enhance the Department's <br />ability to quickly and efficiently service citizens requiring documentation of minor crimes or insurance <br />related incidents that may otherwise have no solvability factors. This addresses a specific goal set fourth <br />by the police department in 2003 of increasing accessibility of police services through the use of the <br />World Wide Web. <br /> <br /> · CRIMS Interface Software ($10,000) <br /> <br />As part of an Alameda County inner-agency agreement to share a countywide "CRIMS" database, the <br />department needs to integrate our CAD/RIMS data into the system. The CRIMS database will provide <br />field personnel with greater resources for background information, previous law enforcement contacts <br />and "in-house" information. To accomplish this task a vendor will author an interface that can be used to <br />convert our data to the format required by the County IT Department for submission into the database. <br /> <br /> · Lightweight Duty Gear ($24,840) <br /> <br />This item will replace the traditional leather duty belts and gear currently worn by department personnel. <br />Several officers have already procured the new equipment on the advice of a physician. The lightweight <br />gear is made ora synthetic plastic which is more durable than leather with half the weight. It requires <br />less maintenance and is less likely to fade, crack, or peel. Closures use snaps rather than Velcro (which <br />wears out). The snaps are hidden to minimize maintenance and give a cleaner overall appearance. <br /> <br /> · 12 Self-Paced Spanish Courses ($960) <br /> <br />This item is meant to assist Department personnel possessing little or no Spanish speaking skills by <br />providing an oppommity to learn to communicate on a basic level with Spanish speaking individuals <br />contacted during the course of their duty. <br /> <br />SR 05:030 <br /> <br /> <br />
