THE CITY OF <br /> <br />I>L£ S?tNTONo <br /> Staff Report <br /> <br /> February 15, 2005 <br /> Public Works Department <br /> <br />SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF STREET SWEEPING CONTRACT WITH <br /> CLEANSTREET FOR CITY STREETS AND PARKING LOTS <br /> <br />STAFF RECOMMENDATION: <br /> <br /> Staff recommends that the City Council take the following action at its <br /> meeting of February 15, 2005: <br /> <br /> Award a contract for street sweeping services to CleanStreet and authorize <br /> the City Manager to execute the attached agreement. <br /> <br />SUMMARY: CleanStreet submitted the lowest responsible bid for street sweeping <br /> services for 188 miles of City streets and 37 parking lots. The City <br /> advertised in the newspaper and sent out bid packages to interested <br /> vendors. The City Clerk received three qualified submittals by the bid <br /> closing. The contract provides for annual street sweeping services similar <br /> to the previous levels of service, and includes new language assuring <br /> intersections are more effectively cleaned. The annual compensation for <br /> street sweeping services is estimated to be $193,455, with an additional <br /> $45,000 estimated for City paid dumping fees. <br /> <br />Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council: <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br /> <br />On July 1, 2002, the City erected into an agreement with Universal Sweeping Services for <br />street sweeping services. Universal Sweeping Services informed the City in a letter dated <br />October 26, 2004 that they needed a significant increase in the agreed sweeping rates or they <br />would be unable to continue services. Staff accepted their 120-day notice to terminate the <br />contract.
