residents have moved to Pleasanton over the years, and he feels we should try to minimize the
disruption of new facilities. Mr. Horton feels the neighbors have valid concerns with the size of the
facility and traffic arrangements. It seems ELI has been encouraged to use Stone Pointe Way. He
would suggest changing the plans to use Stoneridge. He feels the school's impact on Stoneridge
would be negligible, as opposed to the impact to Stone Pointe Way. To the suggestion of finding
another site for this school, he stated there is no other site for this school. The parents of this school
make the decision to trade-off large playgrounds for the private school environment/academic
programs. He feels ELI can present a plan that will maintain the quality of life for the neighbors.

Gina Cardera, 3813 Mohr Avenue, has a daughter attending ELI for six years. They continue to
emoll her daughter at ELI because they are happy with the education she is receiving. She hopes
there will be some compromise between staff, the applicants and the residents for the good of the
school.

Kathy Turner Meyer, 321 Adams Way, has a daughter attending ELI for six years. This school has
meant a lot to them, and they are eager to see it grow. ELI is offering to compromise, and she feels
the issues can be resolved and move this project forward. She wants there to be an understanding
that there is good faith on the part of ELI to continue working on the project.

Pat Dickens, 7653 Hillsdale Court, has three children attending ELI. For their family, they needed
education alternatives that are not offered by public schools. Sixty percent of ELI students are from
Pleasanton. The school does cost money, but the parents have made tradeoffs for their children to
attend a private school with very good teachers. Ms. Dickens is also concerned about the neighbors.
ELI has come in good faith, but this is not being understood by the neighborhood residents.

Bill Olson, 3677 Huff Court and 3832 Stone Pointe Way, applauds the academic programs of ELI.
He is concerned about the safety issues. They do not know what impact the new Mohr school will
have. Property values decrease in conjunction with a school. He has found it very difficult to have
the police enforce parking violations until after 72 hours, so the parking problems caused by the
school will not be addressed by the police. He does not feel the traffic measures (medians, barriers)
are acceptable.

Barbara Jarnagin, 3813 Stone Pointe Way, is concerned about real estate values, cut through traffic,
children's safety crossing the intersection of Stone Pointe Way and Stoneridge Drive, the congestion
from the new public school is unknown at this time. She is also concerned about the density in the
neighborhood and the lack of parking.

William Wheeler, 2958 Garden Creek Circle, feels the property is too small for the proposed project.
Is this an appropriate application for this property? With the Mohr Avenue school and the potential
for the St. Elizabeth Seton school, is it right to put another school so close? The value-added
element of this school is before- and after-school day care. This is a business, and he doesn't want
a business put on this property.

Tim Balvin, 2842 Garden Creek Circle, looks forward to another ELI school in Pleasanton, but the
challenge is to find an alternative location.

~

Planning Commission Minutes

Page 20

January 22, 1997
