Such an additional demand for freeway capacity would have
a significant impact on freeway operations, primarily affecting 1-580 west
of the 1-680 interchange. A BART parking deficit would aJso cause
parking overflow to private development on lands adjacent to the BART
stations.

A supply of 4,500 stalls for the East Dublin/Pleasanton station (the target
set by the General Plan Steering Committee) is believed sufficient to
avoid a parking deficit.

This mitigation measure would reduce the impact to a less-than-
significant level; however, it is beyond the ability of the City of
Pleasanton to implement the measure.

BART aJone has the power to increase the number of parking spaces
provided at its stations.

Strong ground abakiDg during &II earthquake in the PllUIIliDg Area could
c:aue rt",dural dlmage to improvemeau &lid injury or Iou of life to people.

Implement policies and programs in the General Plan option.

The G=al Plan must inGoIpUlolk; the following policies and prognuns:

..............-.............................-...........................................................................................:

: Polley : Program .
....nnn.~..n..n"i".......~..:.::::.:.:.IL:...::...;
. : L...n~~...
: : 2.5
.--------.-.-----.-.....-............--....-..

~
'.~bli~.s~...n...........

Ew.u with imp~ri'lll of these pollcies and programs, the impact camJDt be
raIuced to a Iess-than-signifu:a ieYd.

While the types of publlc educatioo prognuns included in the Geoer.ll Plan would
bclp resiMm of pl_""nt.... become more aw.in; of seismic ba2anls and the
I!""'....hnita! studies required by the Plan would help to assure that new stIucIIIn:s
inalrporate the best available tecImology for resisting damage caused by seismic
events, cum:nt tecImology cannot guarantee construction that will not be
damaged by a majorearthquala:.

s
