<br />PLANNING COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON <br />ALAMEDA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA <br />RESOLUTION NO. PC-96-33 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION RECOMMENDING THAT THE CITY COUNCIL CERTIFY <br />THE FINAL ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT REPORT FOR THE <br />1996 PLEASANTON GENERAL PLAN UPDATE <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Council appointed in June, 1993, a fifteen-member General Plan Steering <br />Committee to coordinate a comprehensive General Plan update; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Steering Committee initiated its work by conducting a series of nine "town <br />meetings," the purpose of which was to solicit input from the public regarding <br />issues which should be addressed in the update; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, over 300 people attended these meetings; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, based upon input received at the town meetings, the Steering Committee formed <br />six sub-committees consisting initially of a total of more than 200 members; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the purpose of the sub-committees, where were chaired by Steering Committee <br />members, was to study, discuss, and formulate recommendations for updating the <br />General Plan; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the six sub-committees consisted of: <br /> <br />I. Land UselGrowth <br />2. Circulation/Growth <br />3. HousinglGrowth <br />4. Conservation/Open Space/Parks/Environment/Growth <br />5. Public Services and FacilitieslGrowth <br />6. Economic and Fiscal/Growth; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, an "Assembly," consisting of all sub-committee members, was also established <br />to allow for joint feedback; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, more than 1 00 sub-committee meetings were conducted between March and <br />October, 1994, which meetings produced a series of working documents; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, during the sub-committee recommendations phase, the Steering Committee met <br />regularly in an effort to coordinate the overall planning phase; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, a continuous exchange of information between the sub-committees took place <br />through the co-chairs at Steering Committee meetings; and <br />
