Page 2 of 3 <br /> <br />3. Re-inspection and Abatement: Fire inspectors inspect the parcels on the abatement list. If <br />a hazard exists and abatement has not occurred by the deadline (May 31, 2025) set by the <br />LPFD, the contractor abates the weeds. <br /> <br />4. Tax Lien: The property owners are sent an invoice for the abatement costs, plus an <br />administrative charge and, if related litigation is required, all attorneys’ fees, expenses and <br />costs. Any amount not paid by the property owners is placed as a special assessment on the <br />property owner's tax bill. <br /> <br />DISCUSSION <br />Upon adoption of a resolution, provided as Attachment 1, LPFD will notify all listed property <br />owners (see Exhibit A of the resolution) of the public hearing set for April 15, 2025, as well as <br />of the May 31, 2025, deadline to complete the abatement. <br /> <br />EQUITY AND SUSTAINABILITY <br />The adoption of this resolution will enable LPFD to further its commitment to creating a safe <br />and sustainable community by mitigating the risk of fire hazards arising from vegetation <br />growth. This step will ensure the safety of our neighborhoods and will promote a healthier and <br />more resilient environment for all residents. <br /> <br />OUTREACH <br />Following approval of a resolution, staff will provide written notice to property owners declaring <br />non-compliant parcels as a nuisance. The notification will include information about the public <br />hearing scheduled for April 15, 2025, as well as the May 31, 2025, deadline to complete the <br />abatement. The notice will also include details on the weed abatement standards and a list of <br />contractors for reference. <br /> <br />STRATEGIC PLAN ALIGNMENT <br />This action advances the ONE Pleasanton Strategic Plan goals of Safeguarding Our City, <br />Strategy 6 - Implement high priority items from the 2022-2026 Livermore-Pleasanton Fire <br />Department Strategic Plan. <br /> <br />FISCAL IMPACT <br />Property owners are invoiced for all work performed in addition to an administrative charge <br />and, if related litigation is required, all attorneys’ fees, expenses and costs. Unpaid invoices <br />become a special assessment on the property owner’s tax bill.
