90 | CITY OF PLEASANTON URBAN FOREST MASTER PLAN <br />URBAN FOREST MANAGEMENT PRACTICES <br />Table 1-3 has the six-year average of tree maintenance <br />activities separated by contractor and City staff labor. <br />Outsourcing pruning work is frequently done by cities as <br />it can generally be a cost-effective method to conduct <br />municipal pruning activities by limiting a city’s overhead <br />costs for purchasing, maintaining, and having the space <br />to store the large equipment needed to conduct the work. <br />This also allows City staff to focus on other management <br />activities that involve planning and interfacing with the <br />public, like managing permits, responding to residents’ <br />service requests, and other arboricultural tasks. <br />Table 1-3.
