Page 1 of 4 <br />Item #8 <br /> <br />LIBRARY COMMISSION AGENDA <br />REPORT <br /> <br /> <br />October 3, 2024 <br />Library and Recreation <br /> <br />TITLE: REVIEW AND APPROVE LIBRARY COMMISSION SHORT-TERM WORKPLAN <br />PRIORITIES FOR FY 2024/25 <br /> <br />SUMMARY <br />As stated in Section 2.34.020 of the Pleasanton Municipal Code, “The duties of the Pleasanton <br />Library Commission shall include the following: Develop a commission workplan to be provided <br />to the City Council for consideration during the budget process. The workplan should be based <br />on the goals and strategies outlined in the ONE Pleasanton Strategic Plan as well as the role <br />of the commission.” <br /> <br />As the next two-year budget cycle will be developed in early 2025, staff recommends the <br />Library Commission review and approve a short-term workplan to guide its work over the <br />course of this current fiscal year (July 1, 2024 – June 30, 2025). The workplan goals are based <br />on the commission member priority rankings from the August 1, 2024 commission meeting. <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Review and approve Library Commission short-term workplan priorities for FY 2024/25. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br />As stated in Section 2.34.020 of the Pleasanton Municipal Code: “The duties of the Pleasanton <br />Library Commission shall include the following: Develop a commission workplan to be provided <br />to the City Council for consideration during the budget process. The workplan should be based <br />on the goals and strategies outlined in the ONE Pleasanton Strategic Plan as well as the role <br />of the commission.” <br /> <br />At the Library Commission meeting on August 1, 2024, staff sought feedback on commission <br />priorities for FY 2024/25. Each of the five commissioners indicated their ratings for short-term <br />priorities, ranked in order of preference: <br />1. Commission Outreach at Library and Community Events (Three commissioners ranked <br />as Priority #1, and two commissioners ranked as Priority #2.) <br />2. Receive Staff Reports on Library Topics (Two commissioners ranked as Priority #1, and <br />three commissioners ranked as Priority #2.) <br />3. Work with Staff to Develop Print Marketing Brochures for Outreach (Three <br />commissioners ranked as Priority #3, one commissioner ranked as Priority #4, and one <br />commissioner ranked as Priority #5.) <br />4. Update and Recommend Library Policies (Three commissioners ranked as Priority #4, <br />one commissioner ranked as Priority #3, and one commissioner ranked as Priority #5.) <br />5. Develop Introductory Emails to Send to Organizations and Businesses (Three <br />commissioners ranked as Priority #5, and two commissioners ranked as Priority #4.) <br />6.
