2-25 Pleasanton Parks and Recreation Master Plan Section Two – Recreation Facility Needs Assessment 2014 Recreation Facility Requirements The demand for certain recreation facilities is calculated based upon actual participation rates as determined from the telephone survey. The facility demand for each of the selected activities is determined based upon current and future population figures. The total facility demand is compared to the existing facility inventory which results in a surplus or deficit. Of the twelve (12) activities surveyed, ten (10) were identified as meeting needs or having a current surplus of facilities. The remainder (skate park and dog park) show current deficits (see Exhibit 2.9‐3). Total recreational swimming square footage in City pools is estimated to be 19,005 sq. ft. including recently renovated Dolores Bengtson Aquatic Center. Demand is equivalent to 23,985 sq. ft. ***Values reflect that school facilities receive ½ credit due to school hours unavailability. These facilities have limited access due to existing District Operations.
