This timing and interest aligns with the City's interest in streamlining its programming
and focusing the City's resources and funding on the Firehouse Arts Center, a City-owned
resource.

DISCUSSION
With Measure I funding, the District plans to build a modern theater facility that will allow the
expansion of theater programs in the district and also support community rentals, benefiting
the overall community.

In light of the City’s current financial situation, transferring ownership of the theater benefits the
City by lowering facility maintenance, utility, janitorial, staffing, and equipment costs for this
facility. This transfer also allows staff to focus on enlivening the Firehouse Arts Center, by
focusing on just one performing arts venue.

EQUITY AND SUSTAINABILITY
Transfer of the Amador Theater promotes the expansion and sustainability of community
theater programming, which provides opportunities for local artists, patrons, and residents to
participate in and enjoy the theater arts. Streamlining resources and focusing on enlivening the
Firehouse Arts Center allows the City to continue to provide a broad array of cultural events
and programs that benefit Pleasanton's diverse community.

OUTREACH
The District included the renovation of this theater in the materials for the Measure I bond,
which were shared with the public.

STRATEGIC PLAN ALIGNMENT
This action advances the ONE Pleasanton Citywide Strategic Plan objective Funding Our
Future, Strategy 1 - Develop a long-term strategy for funding operations and maintenance
needs to ensure the reliability of community-owned facilities and infrastructure and continuity of
City services.

FISCAL IMPACT
Per the 1988 agreement, the District has the right to purchase the theater for $100. While the
full cost savings are not known at this time, staff estimate a savings of approximately $67,000
per year by no longer paying for the maintenance and utilities at this facility. Additionally, staff
expects to save approximately $6,000 on temporary staff expenses annually by no longer
staffing this theater.

Prepared by: Submitted by: Approved by:

Heidi Murphy, Director of
Library and Recreation
Alexa Jeffress, Deputy City Manager

Gerry Beaudin, City
Manager

Attachments:
1.
