Page 1 of 3 <br />Item #7 <br /> <br />LIBRARY COMMISSION AGENDA <br />REPORT <br /> <br /> <br />August 1, 2024 <br />Library and Recreation <br /> <br />TITLE: REVIEW LIBRARY PROGRAMS BEING HELD IN AUGUST AND DISCUSS <br />COMMISSIONER OUTREACH OPPORTUNITIES <br /> <br />SUMMARY <br />To address outreach goals that have been selected by the Library Commission for 2024, <br />commission members have requested that staff provide a list of upcoming events where the <br />Library Commission members can conduct outreach and share information about Library <br />programs and services. <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Review library programs being held in August and discuss commissioner outreach <br />opportunities <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br />Commissioners play a pivotal role in extending the reach of the Pleasanton Library in the <br />community through participation in outreach. Past and present commissioners have attended <br />and engaged with the community in library programs and services such as the Cultural <br />Celebrations, the Paws to Read 20th Anniversary Celebration, Gingerbread Preschool <br />Outreach, Summer Reading Performances and the Friends of the Library community book <br />sales, to name a few. <br /> <br />At the January 4, 2024 meeting, the Library Commission approved the following Outreach <br />Purpose and Outreach Goals to guide their work throughout the year: <br /> <br />Outreach Purpose: <br />Promote library programs, materials, and resources, leveraging commissioners’ social media <br />connections, community groups, and other resources. <br /> <br />Outreach Goals: <br />1. Identify opportunities for increasing library partnerships with local businesses and <br />organizations <br />2. Work with staff to develop a general and thematic presentation(s) for specific <br />community groups and a sample introductory email, each with a call to action <br />3. Work with staff to determine programs and services where commissioners can get <br />involved and build new connections with community members <br />4. Connect with PUSD schools and teachers to help partner in the promotion of youth and <br />teen programs <br />5. Work with staff to help lead a library initiative, or a signature event such as a community <br />read or mobile vehicle outreach session. <br />Page 65 of 80
