3
Service Centers Nationwide

In some case scenarios, pesticide usage will be the first method implemented, but in majority of
situations it will be used in the minimum amount necessary and our last resource. It will be used in
combination with other control methods. Pestmaster focuses on a targeted application, using
pesticides only when and where needed, reducing risks of intoxication and environmental
contamination.

Cultural Control

It is the change of practices (like Standard Operating Practices) that may favor pest proliferation,
and sanitation. Sanitation is the reduction or elimination of the conditions that pests need to survive,
like food, water, and a harborage (nesting or breeding sites), also known as the pest triangle.

Examples of sanitation:
 Frequent trash removal, keeping garbage cans covered, cleaning to remove food sourced
for pests like cockroaches, ants, flies, rodents, etc.
 Improvement of drainage, elimination of stagnant water in containers that serve as
breeding sites for mosquitoes.
 Proper storage of materials on shelves not in contact with floors or walls, reducing harborage
sites for rodents and other pests.
 Removal of debris piles, cutting tall weeds/vegetation, and the elimination of cardboard
boxes in basements, attics, and storage rooms.
 Maintain all shrubbery at least 24 to 36 inches from the building.
 Keeping a healthy crop that can withstand pest attacks.
 Building occupants and workers should use proper care when receiving goods and items to
prevent brining pests, like German cockroaches, into facilities.

Armed with this information, you can create conditions that are unfavorable for the pest or reduce
the likelihood of pest introduction.

Mechanical Control

It is the use of devices, machines, and other physical barriers to control pests or alter the
environment and suppress their populations. It does not require pesticide applications and in
certain situations, like rodent pre-baiting and trapping indoors, can be a standalone solution.
Mechanical control also includes exclusion, which is the most effective method to prevent pests
from entering a building. It includes closing entry points to prevent pests from entering the building,
or sealing cracks and crevices that serve as a harborage site for them.

Examples of mechanical control:
 Adding or fixing screens to prevent mosquitoes from entering a home.
 Using vacuum cleaner to reduce fleas, ticks, cockroaches, and bed bug infestations.
DocuSign Envelope ID: 16D1C412-7260-4260-8A87-C870C0BEE374
