Ordinance No 2279 <br />Page 4 of 6 <br />Equipment Name: Daniel Defense model MK18 RI II Rifles (Delayed to acquire in early 2024) <br />Sought: The SWAT Team is seeking 13 rifles to <br />Lifespan: Approximately 7 Years <br />replace the PWS MK111 rifles. <br />Equipment Capabilities: Capable of firing .223 caliber ammunition <br />Manufacturer Product Description: The MK18 AR15 style firearm is unmatched in size, weight, and <br />performance, and features the picatinny quad rail Daniel Defense provides to USSOCOM. The RIS 11 <br />picatinny quad rail features a Bolt -Up System that has been rigorously tested prior to fielding by <br />USSOCOM. The 10.3 inch Cold Hammer Forged barrel is the same length in use for the MK18 upper <br />most commonly used for CQB operations. The independently ambi GRIP -N -RIP Charging Handle <br />accommodates left- and right-handed shooters. This rifle also comes with the ergonomic Daniel <br />Defense Buttstock and Pistol Grip. <br />Purpose/Authorized Uses: The DD MK18 rifles serve the same function as patrol rifles. They allow <br />officers to address lethal threats with precision from a distance. Compared to handguns, they are <br />more accurate at greater distances and can penetrate most body armor. The DD MK18 rifles will be <br />issued to members of the SvNAT team. <br />Fiscal Impacts: The initial purchase price for the DD MK18 rifles will be $21,108.62 forthirteen rifles <br />in 2024. Annual maintenance costs are approximately $150 for batteries, parts and cleaning supplies. <br />Annual Maintenance: Anticipated to be $500 <br />Personnel Cost: Anticipated to be approximately $80,500. This cost reflects a year of required <br />training for personnel assigned to the SvVAT Team <br />Legal/Procedural Rules Governing Use: PPD Policy 312.4.4 covers deployment, use, care, and <br />maintenance of rifles. In addition, there are a multitude of California Penal Code sections that also <br />apply to the transportation, care, and maintenance of assault rifles. Only officers who have completed <br />a P.O.S.T. certified patrol rifle course may be issued a rifle. A qualification course must be completed by <br />each officer at least annually. <br />Training Required: Officers must complete a RO.S.T. certified course to be issued a rifle. These courses <br />are a minimum of 16 hours of instruction on use, deployment and maintenance of the rifles. P.O.S.T. <br />also requires four hours of tactical firearm instruction every two years for officers and this training is <br />facilitated by P.O.S.T. certified rifle instructors. SWAT Team members who will be issued the DD MK18 <br />rifles receive additional range training at least monthly. <br />Other Notes: Will replace current SWAT rifle inventory <br />
