MILITARY EQUIPMENT USE REPORT 2023 <br /> <br /> <br />Equipment Name: Defense Technology 40mm CS Liquid Barricade Penetra'ng Ferret (Model 2262) <br />Quan/ty Owned/Sought: Up to 300 owned Lifespan: Approximately 5 years <br />Equipment Capabili/es: Delivers 27 grams of CS gas and can be launched from 50 yards away. <br />Manufacturer Product Descrip/on: The Ferret 40mm round is non-burning and suitable for indoor <br />use. Used primarily by tac'cal teams, it is designed to penetrate barriers, such as windows, hollow <br />core doors, wallboard, and thin plywood. Upon impac'ng the barrier, the nose cone ruptures and <br />instantaneously delivers a small chemical payload inside of a structure or vehicle. <br />Purpose/Authorized Uses: To deploy chemical agents to encourage a suspect to surrender or <br />disperse. <br />Fiscal Impacts: The devices were included in the purchase of the 40mm launchers in 2018. They cost <br />$25 each. <br />Annual Maintenance: $1,000, general fund <br />Personnel Cost: Approximately $7,000. This cost reflects a year of required training for personnel <br />assigned to the SWAT Team. <br />Legal/Procedural Rules Governing Use: All use of force applica'ons are governed by state law <br />(including Penal Code sec'on 13652) and Pleasanton PD Policy Sec'ons 300 and 308. All chemical <br />agent deployments except handheld pepper spray and FN 303 deployments require a chemical agents <br />plan approved by a commander. Only trained members of the SWAT Team may deploy chemical <br />agents. <br />Training Required: Only officers who have received training on this device from a cer'fied chemical <br />agents instructor are authorized to use it. <br />Other Notes: None. <br />37
