MILITARY EQUIPMENT USE REPORT 2023 <br /> <br />Equipment Name: Defense Technology Aerosol OC Vapor Grenade (Model 1056) <br />Quan/ty Owned/Sought: Up to 50 owned Lifespan: Approximately 5 years <br />Equipment Capabili/es: Deploys OC (pepper spray) vapor in a mist <br />Manufacturer Product Descrip/on: The OC Vapor Aerosol Grenade is for law enforcement and <br />correc'ons use to deliver a high concentra'on of Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) in a powerful mist. The <br />grenade is designed for indoor use in confined areas and once deployed, inflames the mucous <br />membranes and exposed skin resul'ng in an intense burning situa'on. The incapacita'ng effect of the <br />OC Vapor on the subject is drama'c yet requires minimal decontamina'on. Removing the subject <br />from the affected area to fresh air will resolve respiratory effects within minutes. The OC Vapor <br />Aerosol Grenade is ideal for cell extrac'ons or barricaded situa'ons where use of a pyrotechnic, <br />powder or liquid device is not prac'cal or desired. <br />Purpose/Authorized Uses: To deploy chemical agents to encourage a suspect to surre nder or <br />disperse. <br />Fiscal Impacts: The devices cost $55 each and are sold in quan''es of 12. <br />Annual Maintenance: $660, general fund <br />Personnel Cost: N/A. None in inventory. <br />Legal/Procedural Rules Governing Use: All use of force applica'ons are governed by state law <br />(including Penal Code sec'on 13652) and Pleasanton PD Policy Sec'ons 300 and 308. All chemical <br />agent deployments except handheld pepper spray and FN 303 deployments require a chemical agents <br />plan approved by a commander.
