Kottinger Community Park - Upper Kottinger Creek:

• Staff completed the removal of dead and overgrown vegetation along Upper
Kottinger Creek. The project began below Adams Way and finished near Bernal
Ave. In total, 56 cubic yards of chipped brush were removed.

Main Street:

• Eight declining purple robe locust trees were removed on Main Street. Staff
ground all eight stumps. Fifteen new trees were planted to replace the trees that
were removed and to fill vacant planting locations that were created throughout
the year.

Museum on Main:

• Staff installed lights on the Christmas tree for the annual tree lighting event. The
tree looked great. At some point, the tree may get too tall to decorate all the way
to the top without specialized equipment.

Medians and Trails:

• A median infill planting project was completed with new plants being installed in
the median at El Charro north of Stoneridge Dr., W. Las Positas east of Santa
Rita, Bernal Ave near the 680 underpass, and Stanley Blvd. near Valley Ave.
Prior to planting all of the irrigation was checked and repaired. Additional
irrigation oversight was required during the plant establishment period
• Staff installed new infill plants at the Greentree Court roundabout. In all, 20 1 -
gallon Hypericum moserianum shrubs were planted
• Staff installed eight large boulders on the northbound 680 exit at Bernal Ave.
This spot had become a parking area for semi-trucks. The trucks were damaging
the plant material and irrigation
• Throughout the summer and fall seasons, staff manually watered 245 young
trees throughout the streets and medians. Each tree is watered approximately
every two weeks. Trees are typically watered for the first three years after
planting to help with establishment
• Staff closed Augustin Bernal Park on October 30th for trail and erosion repairs
that were carried out by an as-needed contractor. The contractor installed
erosion control measures on a landslide near the top of the Valley View Trail.
They also cleaned out the culverts that pass below the trail Valley View Trail at
two locations and installed jute netting on the hillside to help reduce additional
erosion. The areas addressed were damaged in last winter’s storms
• During the closure of Augustin Bernal Park Staff performed vegetation
management work, which consisted of trimming brush back from a section of the
Valley View trail and management of an area of invasive French broom weed
• Staff cleared deposited soil from the drainage swales on the Valley View Trail.
