Several corrugated metal drainpipes leading to the canal <br />were also relined <br />• The replacement of the 5–12-year-old and 2–5-year-old playgrounds located <br />near the community garden was completed. Feedback from the community has <br />been positive <br />• After many years the public art memorial bench, known as Ryan’s Bench, had to <br />be removed due to internal damage that was beyond repair. Tiles from the bench <br />were saved and a new public art project using the Ryan’s Bench tiles was <br />completed. An on-call contractor was utilized to install a concrete band with <br />hardened decomposed granite for the tiles to be placed in. <br /> <br />Muirwood Community Park: <br /> <br />• Staff planted five new Quercus rugosa (Netleaf Oak) trees in the planter east of <br />the pickleball courts. This is a new species of oak tree that is supposed to be <br />drought-tolerant and well-adapted to the region. <br /> <br />Bernal Community Park: <br /> <br />• In Phase 2 of the park, staff prepared planting beds for new plants by removing <br />the old plants, tilling in amendments, and adjusting and repairing the irrigation <br />system. 129 new plants were installed along with 1 tree <br />• Staff planted 35 one-gallon plants and 6 new trees in Phase 1 of the park <br />• Staff performed the annual owl box cleanout at this park. Six owl boxes were <br />occupied by seven owls <br />• Staff installed 40 cubic yards of infield mix to the ball fields. <br /> <br />Pleasanton Tennis and Community Park: <br /> <br />• 11 declining redwood trees were removed along with one leaning Aleppo pine. <br />This work was done in conjunction with the tree removals at Ken Mercer Sports <br />Park. <br /> <br />Upper Field Park: <br /> <br />• Staff installed 20 cubic yards of infield mix on the softball fields. <br /> <br />Nielsen Park: <br /> <br />• One of the two damaged slides was repaired at this park. Once parts were <br />received staff quickly installed the new portion of the slide. The repaired slide <br />was inspected by one of our staff Certified Playground Safety Inspectors and <br />opened to the public. The other slide was cost-prohibitive to repair. Records <br />show the current playground was installed in 2004. <br /> <br /> <br />
