City Council Meeting - Submit
Submitted On:
your written public comment Nov 6, 2023, 09:55PM PST
City of Pleasanton
Full Name First Name: Purnam
Last Name: Sheth
Email (this entry is disclosable [email protected]
if included)
City Council Meeting Date November 07, 2023
Agenda Item Number Water Rate discussion
Comments Mayor, council members, and city staff,
First thank you for continuing to work on this serious issue.
I would like you to consider the following issues when contemplating
this next rate increase:
1. Surcharge (for 2 years) vs a Permanent Increase for a temporary
problem:
- $4M / year loss of revenue due to the wells being down is a
temporary problem given they should be operational in 4 years
- $2M/year alternative water study is temporary
- Replenishing the enterprise fund to 35% is a temporary activity —
once replenished the surcharge isn't necessary
Otherwise you are permanently increasing our rates when it is
clearly not justified 3 or 4 years from now, as the majority of
expenses are temporary.
The rates do need to increase (inflation, cpi etc) -- but the
temporary needs should not be permanent
