NSA;V City Council Meeting - Submit
Submitted On:
your written public comment Nov 6, 2023, 04:17PM PST
City of Pleasanton
ANYEb P
Full Name
Email (this entry is disclosable
if included)
City Council Meeting Date November 07, 2023
Agenda Item Number 17
Comments I support Pleasanton's proposed restriction on gas-powered leaf
blowers to take effect June 2024. For more information on this topic,
see the October 2023 report from US PIRG, Lawn Care Goes Electric.
It's available to download at
https://pirg.org/california/resources/lawn-care-goes-electric/ and a
PDF is attached. Most interestingly, Appendix B on page 26 lists
Alameda County #17 of top 100 US counties for carbon dioxide
emissions from lawn and garden equipment. Additionally, according
to a 2017 NIH-funded study, gas-powered leaf blowers can be
disruptive up to 800 feet from the source, affecting hundreds of
residents simultaneously.
(https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6707732/) . The City
of Lafayette (CA) offers residents an electric leaf blower lending
program, and perhaps Pleasanton can offer similar. The American
Green Zone Alliance (agza.net) partners with cities and the lawn care
industry to transition to electric. Pleasanton can join hundreds of
other cities that have restrictions on leaf blower use and ensure that
residents are not exposed to the excessive/harmful noise and
emissions of gas-powered leaf blowers. Thank you.
