3 <br /> THE CITY OF <br /> —•• r CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br /> PLEASANTON <br /> October 17, 2023 <br /> City Manager <br /> TITLE: ADOPT A RESOLUTION TO SET RATES FOR COMMERCIAL MIXED <br /> RECYLING COMPACTORS AND COMMERCIAL 64-GALLON MIXED <br /> RECYCLING CARTS AS REQUIRED BY THE FRANCHISE AGREEMENT <br /> BETWEEN THE CITY OF PLEASANTON AND PLEASANTON GARBAGE <br /> SERVICE INC. AND AMEND THE CURRENTLY ADOPTED RATE <br /> SCHEDULE TO INCLUDE THE NEWLY SET RATES <br /> SUMMARY <br /> Pursuant to the existing franchise agreement between the City and Pleasanton Garbage <br /> Service Inc. (PGS), the City Council is responsible for establishing and approving <br /> garbage rates. If the need arises for a new rate that does not appear on the City- <br /> approved rate schedule, PGS will notify the City and request the establishment of such <br /> a rate. On September 19, 2023, PGS notified the City that a rate was needed to provide <br /> service to commercial mixed recycling compactors and for the commercial 64-gallon <br /> carts. The newly established rates will go into effect immediately and the currently <br /> adopted rate schedule will be updated to include the new rates. <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> 1 . Adopt a resolution setting rates for commercial mixed recycling compactors and <br /> commercial 64-gallon mixed recycling cart effective immediately. <br /> 2. Amend the currently adopted rate schedule to include the newly set rates. <br /> FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br /> The City receives monthly a 3.5% franchise fee based on revenue from collected rates. <br /> As stipulated in the franchise agreement all adopted rates and subsequent revenue are <br /> included in the City's franchise fee. There is no significant increase in franchise fee <br /> revenue expected from setting the rates for commercial mixed recycling compactors <br /> and commercial 64-gallon mixed recycling carts. <br />
