IN THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE <br /> CITY OF PLEASANTON <br /> STATE OF CALIFORNIA <br /> <br />ORDINANCE NO. 357 <br /> <br />ESTABLISHING STANDBY COUNCILMEN <br />FOR PRESERVATION OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT <br />IN EVENT OF WAR OR NUCLEAR ATTACK <br /> <br />The City Council does hereby ordain as follows: <br /> <br />SECTION 1. AUTHORITY. The City Council as a local <br /> <br />agency in an area which may be a prime target for enemy attack, <br /> <br />establishes a system for preservation of local government, and <br /> <br />creates the office of standby Councilman, pursuant to the author- <br /> <br />ity of Section 1550 et seq of the Government Code of the State <br /> <br />of California. <br /> <br />SECTION 2. STANDBY OFFICERS. There is hereby established <br /> <br />the office of standby councilmen, to provide for the continuance <br /> <br />of the legislative body of the City of Pleasanton in case of a <br /> <br />disaster. <br /> <br /> Duties: <br />duties: <br /> <br />Each stand-by officer shall have the following <br /> <br />To inform himself of the duties of the office for <br />which he is standby officer. Officers and employee: <br />of the local agency shall assist him and each local <br />agency shall provide each standby officer with a <br />copy of this article. <br /> <br />To keep informed of the business and affairs of the <br />local agency to the extent necessary to enable him <br />to fill his post competently. For this purpose <br />the local agency may arrange information meetings <br />and require attendance. <br /> <br />To immediately report himself ready for duty in <br />the event of disaster at the place and in the <br />method previously designated by the local agency. <br /> <br />To fill the post for which he has been appointed wh~ <br />because of disaster it has become vacant. Standby <br />Officers No. 2 and No. 3 shall substitute in suc- <br />cession for Standby Officer No. 1 in the same way <br />that said standby officer is substituted in place <br />of the regular officer. He shall serve until the <br />recovery of the regular officer from his injuries <br />or the election or appointment of a new regular <br />officer.
