5. ADVANCE NOTICE <br /> a. Absent exigent circumstances, the Department will provide direct notice to the <br /> employee at least 72 hours prior to the change. In the event the Department fails to give <br /> an employee at least seventy-two (72)hours prior notice of a shift change, the employee <br /> will be paid two (2) hours at time and one-half in addition to all scheduled hours (at <br /> regular rate) for the adjusted shift. It is understood that notice is not required for <br /> scheduled or emergency overtime as that is not considered a shift adjustment. <br /> 6. RELIEF POSITIONS <br /> a. Two Sergeants will be designated as Relief Supervisors. <br /> • One Sergeant will be required to work Schedule A-Night Watch. This will <br /> be designated as the "home shift". <br /> • One Sergeant will be required to work Schedule B -Night Watch ("home <br /> shift"). <br /> b. All but two Officer Positions assigned to work Schedule B -Night Watch will be <br /> designated as Relief Officers. <br /> c. All Relief Positions may be moved from their"home shifts"to fill shift vacancies <br /> on Schedule A or Schedule B. <br /> • Schedule adjustments shall be made in a manner that will not conflict with <br /> an employee's scheduled Annual Vacation, Paid Time Off, or days off that <br /> are adjacent to scheduled time off. <br /> d. The Department will make every effort to provide as much advance notice as <br /> possible; however, a minimum of 72-hours advance notice will be provided to the <br /> Relief employees prior to an adjustment from their"home shifts" (see Section 4 of <br /> this Side Letter). <br /> • Adjustments from Night Watch to Morning Watch on Schedule B are <br /> exempt from the 72-hour notice requirement outlined in Section 4 of this <br /> Side Letter. <br /> 7. MAXIMUM HOURS WORKED <br /> a. In the event an employee is required to work beyond his/her normal shift, the <br /> employee shall not be required to work more than 15.5 consecutive hours. <br /> b. The Department shall endeavor to provide employees with a minimum of eight <br /> hours off between shifts. <br /> c. Maximum hours worked and minimum hours off are subject to change at the <br /> discretion of the Police Chief based upon organizational need as a result of <br /> emergencies, disasters, and major incidents. <br /> 8. VACATION SIGN UPS <br /> a. Only one Patrol Officer at a time will be granted Annual Vacation/Paid Time Off on <br /> each watch. <br /> b. Only one Patrol Sergeant at a time will be granted Annual Vacation/Paid Time Off <br /> on Schedule A and one on Schedule B. <br /> c. Employees may sign up for leave equal to one year of annual vacation accrual <br /> (maximum of five weeks). <br /> d. Leave will be accounted for on an hour for hour basis. Thus, absence on a 10-hour <br /> day will require 10 hours of vacation leave and absence on a 12.5-hour day will <br /> require 12.5 hours of vacation leave. <br /> 34 <br />
