Box 520; 200 Old Bernal Avenue
Pleasanton, CA 94566
Subject: Proposal for Design Services
Turnout 5 Discharge Piping Improvements (F-4 Line)
City of Pleasanton
Dear Adam,
Thank you for considering Pokpour Consulting Group (PCG) regarding the City of Pleasanton's
(City) design needs for water main improvements on Bernal Ave. We understand the City will
install a new 18" water main along Bernal Ave between the Zone 7 Water Agency (Zone 7)
Turnout No. 5 (Bernal Ave/Nevada St intersection) and the Bernal Ave/Vineyard Ave/Tawny Dr
intersection in efforts to increase intake capacity from Zone 7 without over-pressurizing the
system during current and future peak demands. This water main will serve as the primary
transmission main to alleviate the pressure increase in the City's 12" distribution water main.
The City and PCG conducted a field visit on July 19, 2023 and discussed an ideal alignment with
the following features:
1) Four tie-ins; 1)the existing 16"x 16"valve assembly beside the curb located on the Bernal
Ave southbound lane by Turnout 5, 2)the Bernal Ave/Vineyard intersection, 3)the Bernal
Ave/Tawny Dr intersection, and 4)the Vineyard Ave pump station located approximately
100 feet west of the Bernal Ave/Tawny Dr intersection.
2) Utilizing the existing 24"steel casing located on the eastern side of the southbound bridge
which currently houses an unused 18" sanitary sewer main. This allows streamlining the
project by avoiding potential permits.
3) Aligning the pipe on both the north and south side of the Arroyo Bridge before the
embankments to accommodate the potential future relocation of the 18" water main to
the western side of the northbound lane. This would permit the 18"sanitary sewer having
the ability to be placed back into service.
4) Using flexible joints on both sides of the bridge.
5) Aligning the pipe to accommodate a potential future turnout on City-owned property
located at the northeast corner of the Bernal Ave/Vineyard intersection.
6) Setting the profile grades greater than 60" below pavement to accommodate future
replacement of the 12" water distribution main.
PAKPOUR CONSULTING GROUP, INC.
6601 Owens Drive, Suite 230, Pleasanton, CA 94588 1 925-224-7717 1 pcgengr.corn
