BACKGROUND
The Pacific Library Partnership (PLP), a consortium of Northern California libraries,
started a pilot project in 2016 to enable the sharing of limited student contact
information between public libraries and public schools to allow student ID cards to
function as library cards as well. The eventual goal was to provide additional resources
to students with one single card. Eleven libraries were part of that initial project.
The Pleasanton Public Library leveraged best practices from these pilot programs to
launch a pilot program with PUSD during the 2017/18 school year. The pilot phase
began with the freshman class at Amador Valley High School and has expanded to
include all PUSD schools, from elementary through high school. Currently, there are
10,737 students participating in the program. Both City and PUSD staff have found the
partnership to be beneficial the students.
DISCUSSION
Based on the successful implementation of the program, the City and PUSD are
interested in continuing this partnership. The updated MOU extends the terms of the
agreement for three years, through the 2025/26 school year, with an additional two
years if agreed on by both parties.
Submitted by: Fiscal Review: A proved by:
Heidi Murphy Susan Hsieh erry Beaudin
Library and Recreation Finance Director . y Manager
Director
Attachment:
1.
