Planning Commission
Agenda Report
June 14, 2023
Item 6

SUBJECT: 2023 Planning Commission – Upcoming Work Items

EXHIBITS: A. Community Development Department Update, May 2023

STAFF RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the Planning Commission receive the report on upcoming items
expected to be brought before the Commission in 2023 and 2024.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
In response to a recent request by a Planning Commissioner, this item provides a summary of
items expected to come before the Planning Commission in the coming six to 12 months. The
summary is based on currently-known projects underway or expected and applications in
process, and could change if additional applications are received or if City Council directs the
initiation of additional projects.

DISCUSSION
At a recent meeting, a member of the Planning Commission requested staff provide a
“preview” of items that are expected to be brought to the Commission in 2023 and 2024. At
each Planning Commission meeting, staff usually provides a summary of future items that will
be agendized, although this list focuses only on items expected to be on the next one or two
meeting agendas – this is because the timing and “readiness” of items for discussion is often
dynamic, with staff aiming to call out items with a high degree of certainty will be coming before
the Commission.

In contrast, the following list is broader and longer-range in nature, reflecting projects and
applications either underway or expected to be in process in coming months. The list is
distinguished by long-range projects and current planning projects. Note that with many
competing projects and priorities, as well as a certain degree of unpredictability that is inherent
with processing development applications (e.g. unforeseen delays on the part of an applicant
or due to the need to resolve a technical issue that arises), stated timelines for when specific
items may be before the Commission should be considered preliminary and subject to change.

Long-Range Planning Projects
A summary of upcoming long-range planning projects, their status, and a rough estimate of
timing when items may be before the Planning Commission is provided in the matrix on the
following page.
