uncommon. As a supporter of Council's previous decision to fund the long
awaited rehabilitation of the Century House site, the current need for
addressing critical water safety and infrastructure gives me pause. I feel the
Council has no choice but to immediately focus the City's financial resources
on resolving our pressing long term water service needs.
Securing a a safe supply of water for Pleasanton residents with reliable
infrastructure is totally worth the unfortunately high cost. I doubt that voting
residents will criticize you for giving this the highest priority. Historically
Pleasanton has always been a water rich community (relatively speaking).
Keeping it that way through infrastructure investment is a great legacy for the
future. It will ensure that our local quality of life and economy remain robust
and, ultimately, able to provide desired recreational and cultural amenities.
Here are a couple of ideas which might help with financing:
1.
Has the City looked into self financing using Certificates of Participation?
2.
How about moving Century House to a more rural setting (on the Bernal
property?) and selling a portion of the 3.5 acres, perhaps 2 acres, for
commercial or mixed use. Keep 1.5 acres for a neighborhood park. How much
would such a sale net, minus park development costs?
I feel sure that current and future Pleasanton residents will thank you for
ensuring safe and sufficient water in the face of unexpected pollutants and
the uncertainties associated with climate change. We rely on your judgement
to secure a healthy future.
Very sincerely,
Becky Dennis
Pleasanton
