Page 12

Hopyard Road at Del Valle Parkway
Both collisions were the result of bicyclist error south of
the intersection. In the first collision the southbound
bicyclist in the bike lane took his eyes off the roadway
and hit the curb causing him to crash. In the second
collisions the northbound bicyclist on the sidewalk hit his
handlebars on the bridge railing and crashed.
Action to take:
Field investigation of bridge railing and determination of
possible modification to prevent handlebar hook. (Countermeasure PLS-RMOD).

Valley Avenue at Blackbird Drive
Both collisions occurred in the west crosswalk
during the evening commute time period.
Action to take:
Consider improving pedestrian visibility and
reduce pedestrian exposure by eliminating right
turn lanes and extending corners of the
intersection (Countermeasure PLS-INTNAR).
Midblock (Bicycle)
Three midblock segments were identified with more than one bicycle collision during the three-year
period. All three segments identified had two collisions in the past three years.
No correctable patterns were identified in the three midblock segments identified in this year’s report.
