19
THE CITY OF
CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
PLEASANTON
April 18, 2023
Police
TITLE: APPROVAL OF SPECIAL EVENT STREET CLOSURES FOR CALENDAR
YEAR 2023
SUMMARY
The Pleasanton Municipal Code requires City Council approval of parades and special
events which necessitate the temporary closure of city streets and temporary parking
restrictions. This information is being provided to inform the City Council and the
citizens of Pleasanton of upcoming street closures throughout the 2023 calendar year.
RECOMMENDATION
Approve the street closures for the 2023 Special Events as detailed in Attachment 1.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
It is estimated the Police Department will expend approximately 564 hours on street
closures and event staffing related to 25 special events this year. The Operations
Services Department estimates approximately 526 hours to prepare for, set up, and
after the event, collect barriers, cones and barricades for these special events. After
calculating the Police personnel costs, at an overtime rate, and the Streets Division
personnel costs at an overtime rate, associated with 2023 special events, the cost of
street closures associated with the events are approximately $126,691 ($62,519 for
Police expenditures and $64,172 for Operations Services/Streets Division
expenditures). These costs are incorporated in the City's General Fund budget with the
respective department. At this time, the City does not recover the costs from the event
organizers.
