amenity safe. In the past, pool slide repairs resulted in the closure of the slide for
extended time periods as repairs needed to be scheduled at least one month in
advance with the manufacturer. The slide is a major attraction for the public, and down
time results in loss of revenues for recreational swimming.
Another advantage of this proposed agreement is that the firm can respond with
multiple resources in a timely manner when unexpected issues occur. In an aging
facility, this is crucial for continuity of services to the community. Not only does this firm
have multiple CPO certified staff but it also has staff that is certified on both broiler and
pump repair with the ability to troubleshoot on site and quickly complete needed repairs.
When comparing costs of the internal maintenance versus the contract maintenance,
the contracted cost is approximately $10,000 more as provided in the chart below.
While this is an increase, staff believes the expertise and response time of the
contractor will result in superior service to the community. Additionally, Operations
Services staff time can be reallocated to the City's other facilities which require regular
maintenance.
*Staff costs below are based on fully encumbered positions cost for Building
Maintenance Journey Level, Building Maintenance lead and Building Maintenance
Supervisor.
Annual City Staff Cost Breakdown
STAFF Schedule Hours Per day Hours Per week Cost
Part-time FTE Fri - Tues 6 30 $45,000
Full-time FTE's Wed -Thru 6 12 $52,000
Full-time FTE's Sat - Sun 5 10 $66,000
Emergency 24/7365 4 hours 6-10 times per $5,000
Calls/Holidays minimum year
Total Cost $168,000
Annual East Bay Pool Service Cost Breakdown (Year 1):
Year 1
Pool Service Maintenance $167,400
As Needed Repairs (Est. so hours) $9,600
$177,000
East Bay Pool Service provides its own cleaning and repair equipment which includes
specialized vacuums, vacuum heads, commercial telescopic pole, pool chemistry
checking kits and a variety of pool filters.
