Stoneridge Mall Framework Meeting Summary <br /> Joint Planning Commission and Community Meeting, via Zoom <br /> September 26, 2022 <br /> Report Out and Closing <br /> After the completion of breakout room discussions, all meeting participates reconvened. The facilitator or <br /> a volunteer from each breakout room summarized the key points from the breakout room discussion to <br /> the whole group. Key points and general points of consensus among the breakout groups include the <br /> following: <br /> • mixed discussion on an ideal entry point, suggesting direct access from the freeway and closer to <br /> the BART station; <br /> • opposition to Springdale as a main access point; <br /> • desire to maintain indoor and outdoor spaces; <br /> • support for main street with shops, need for a grocery store,event and gathering spaces, possible <br /> office space or hospitality spaces, and public art; <br /> • concern about potential increased traffic; <br /> • green space as a popular priority; <br /> • inclusion of active recreation such as bocce ball, seating areas, grab and go dining, and outdoor <br /> dining; <br /> • use of green space to set back new development from existing residential; <br /> • hiding or consolidating vehicular parking; <br /> • concerns about crime, concentration of housing, and impact to schools; <br /> • possibility of mixing housing with commercial uses <br /> The Planning Commission provided comments regarding the following: <br /> • The need for a multi-use opportunity and providing a diverse opportunity for the diverse <br /> community. <br /> • The ring road assists with access and there are multiple access points which should be retained <br /> to allow flexibility in providing a primary entrance with many secondary entrances. <br /> • That the Framework provide a sense of purpose and destination, for the uses to define the <br /> entrance and exit points. <br /> • That the Framework carefully consider traffic flow and impact to surrounding businesses and <br /> neighborhoods. <br /> • That public safety be addressed through additional police staffing. <br /> • The need to differentiate between Downtown and the mall, perhaps limiting chains to the mall. <br /> • That the project necessitates thinking holistically about use of space and to have creative, <br /> collaborative discussions with the property owners. <br /> The City identified that all input will be used to inform the Stoneridge Mall Framework analysis and <br /> outreach going forward and that the feedback from the meeting will be used to develop project alternatives <br /> for Stoneridge Mall. <br /> 4 <br />
