Using the work plan priorities as a starting point, staff has wholistically evaluated the
existing commission and committee structure. The larger review is necessary because
the structure of the City/organization has changed, and City commissions and
committees evolved over time to meet issues of the day. Staff reviewed other local
municipalities' commission and committee structures and found that each city varies
greatly in the number of advisory bodies, the focus areas for those bodies, and the
number of representatives on each body. Each agency's commission and committee
structure is based on its specific organization, priorities, and values. Accordingly, any
reorganization of the existing commission and committee structure would be intended to
best align with the City's organizational structure, to streamline community input and
engagement, to increase attendance and impact for the commission and committee
members, and to create efficiencies for supporting staff.
Staff requests the City Council's input and general direction on a reorganization of the
existing commission and committee structure. To guide the development of proposed
changes to the structure, the City Council could establish an ad hoc subcommittee of
the Council that would present options to the Council at a future meeting.
A copy of this agenda report has been provided to each current commission and
committee member, so they are informed of the Council's consideration of possible
future changes to the existing structure.
S imitted by: Approved by:
WA14t— /X--
amela Ott Gerry Beaudin
.sistant City Manager City Manager
Attachment:
1.
