Under an existing on-call materials testing contract with the City, Geocon Consultants
will be providing testing services. These services include required specialty testing of
the materials for the backfill and compaction of the trench backfill associated with the
pipeline installation. The testing services are estimated to cost $28,200, but payment
will be made based on time and materials.
Budget
The current Capital Improvement Program budget includes $1 ,600,000 to fund the
design and construction of the Val Vista Underdrain Improvements Project, CIP No.
21457. The anticipated expenditure for this project totals $2,014,543, including
$235,000 for the construction contingency, $74,927 for construction support services,
and $28,200 for testing services, leaving a project shortfall of $414,543.
CIP No. 22484, the Design and Construct Storm Drain Outfalls Rehabilitation Project, is
a project created to rehabilitate and repair storm drain outfalls in various locations as
they are identified and has a project balance of$1,200,000. Staff recommends
transferring the needed $414,543 from Design and Construct Storm Drain Outfalls
Rehabilitation, CIP No. 22484, to the Val Vista Underdrain Improvements Project, CIP
No. 21457, to cover the project shortfall. If funding remains at the completion of CIP No.
21457, staff will recommend the remaining balance be transferred back to CIP No.
22484.
The funding, including the recommended transfer, and anticipated project expenditures
are detailed in Attachment 1 .
Schedule
The proposed schedule for the project is as follows:
Approval of Plans & Specifications and Award of Contract January 17, 2023
Start of Construction Spring 2023
End of Construction Fall 2023
As envisioned, the storm drain outfall repairs will be completed by October 15, 2023.
Submitted by: Fiscal Review: Approved by:
Stephen Kirkpatrick Susan Hsieh Gerry Beaudin
Director of Engineering Director of Finance City Manager
Attachments:
1 .
