CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON <br /> ALAMEDA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA <br /> <br /> ORDINANCE N0. 443 <br /> <br /> AN ORDINANCE PROHIBITING PALMISTRY <br /> AND RELATED PRACTICES <br /> <br /> The City Council of the City of Pleasanton does hereby <br /> ordain as follows: <br /> <br /> SECTION 1. DEFINITIONS. For the purposes of this <br />3aee~, the terms, phrases, words and their derivations shall <br /> have a meaning as follows: <br /> <br /> a) Astrology: The pseudo science which treats of <br /> the influences of the stars upon human affairs, <br /> and of foretelling terrestrial events by their <br /> positions and aspects. <br /> <br /> b) Augury: The art or practice of foretelling events <br /> by auspices or omens; divination. <br /> <br /> c) Cartomacy: Divination by means of playing cards. <br /> <br /> d) Clairaudience: The act or power of discerning <br /> objects not present to the senses but regarded <br /> as having objective reality. <br /> <br /> e) Crystal-Gazing:~-'T~e art or practice of gazing <br /> at a crystal in order to evoke the images of <br /> crystal vision; conceived as a method of divination. <br /> <br /> f) Divination: The art or practice of foretelling <br /> or foreseeing future events or discovering hidden <br /> knowledge. <br /> <br /> g) Fortune Telling: The art or practice of foretelling <br /> future events. <br /> <br /> h) Life-Reading: Art or practice of foretelling the <br /> 'length of a 'person's life. <br /> <br /> i) Mediumship: The art or practice in which a person <br /> professes to be susceptible to supernatural <br /> agencies to such an extent as to be able to im- <br /> part knowledge derived from them or to perform <br /> actions impossible without their aid. <br /> <br /> Necromancy: The art of or a device for revealing <br /> 'the iutu~e by pretended communication with the <br /> spirit of the dead. <br /> <br /> k) Palmistry: The art or practice of telling fortunes <br /> or of judging character, aptitudes, etc. by study <br /> of the palm of the hand. <br /> <br /> 1) Phrenology: The study of the conformation of the <br /> Skull as indicative of mental faculties and traits <br /> of character. <br /> <br /> - 1 - <br /> <br /> <br />
