You have my previous comments <br /> and clippings in the packet. <br /> From everything I've read and sent to you, I've seen that funding, next to community support, is the <br /> biggest predictor of successful affordable housing projects in communities. <br /> So I see the Lower Income Housing Fee as critical to our success. It has two parts. Where the money <br /> comes from and where the money goes. <br /> Where the money comes from: <br /> I appreciate staff's caution. I believe that a more in depth fee review should be done sooner rather than <br /> later. Pleasanton is a desirable community. We will continue to have investment. Let's be bold and <br /> thoughtful with our fee structure. <br /> Where the money goes: <br /> I strongly recommend that ALL of the Lower Income Housing Fund, not just 55%,go to build low income <br /> housing, as the name implies.Aren't we misleading businesses that pay into the fund if the money isn't <br /> really creating affordable housing?Aren't we limiting our ability to buy land or match grants? <br /> This complex issue deserves a workshop.The creative ideas were just beginning to percolate at the <br /> Housing and Planning Commission meetings. <br /> I think of this policy, and all of the housing policies, as tools in our affordable housing toolbox.As you <br /> review each policy, I encourage you to choose the option that would increase affordable housing. <br /> Individually and as a Council you have stated your support for affordable housing.And our community <br /> seems to be following suit. <br /> The next reasonable step is to ask the Interim City Manager and staff to start discussions now with non- <br />
