THE CITY OF <br /> CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br /> PLEASANTON. <br /> July 19, 2022 <br /> Engineering <br /> TITLE: APPROVE PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS, REVIEW BIDS, AND AWARD A <br /> CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT TO MAURI CONCRETE CONSTRUCTION <br /> COMPANY, INC. IN THE AMOUNT OF $442,532 FOR THE MUIRWOOD <br /> COMMUNITY PARK COURT RESURFACING PROJECT, CIP NO. 22744 <br /> SUMMARY <br /> This project will resurface the existing basketball court and four tennis courts in <br /> Muirwood Community Park. Two of the resurfaced tennis courts will be converted to six <br /> pickleball courts. Plans for the Muirwood Court Resurfacing Project, CIP No. 22744, <br /> were completed and advertised for bids in May 2022. The advertised construction cost <br /> estimate was $465,000. Two bids were received on June 8, 2022. Staff recommends <br /> the contract be awarded to the lowest responsible bidder, Mauri Concrete Construction <br /> Company, Inc. (Mauri) for the bid amount of$442,532. <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> 1. Approve plans and specifications, review the bids, and award the construction <br /> contract for the project to Mauri Concrete Construction Company, Inc. of EI <br /> Sobrante, CA, for the bid amount of $442,532. <br /> 2. Authorize the City Manager to enter into the project contract on behalf of the City. <br /> 3. Authorize the Director of Engineering to approve and execute any required contract <br /> change order(s) for up to a not-to-exceed amount of$45,000 (approximately 10 <br /> percent of the construction contract) for unforeseen yet necessary related work. <br /> 4. Appropriate the Proposition 68 grant in the amount of$227,000 to the Muirwood <br /> Community Park Court Resurfacing Project, CIP No. 22744. <br /> 5. Transfer $36,000 from the Annual Playgrounds Renovation Project, CIP No. 22745 <br /> (Fund 518 — Park Med), to Muirwood Community Park Court Resurfacing Project, <br /> CIP No. 22744. <br /> FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br /> The total court resurfacing project, including the construction contract, contingencies, <br /> etc., is estimated to cost $513,000. CIP No. 22744 has an available balance of <br /> $250,000. Staff applied for and received a Proposition 68 Grant for the project in the <br /> amount of$227,000. It is also recommended that City Council approve the transfer of <br /> $36,000 from the Annual Playground Renovation, CIP No. 22745, to CIP No. 22744. <br /> These recommendations fully fund the $513,000 needed to complete the court <br /> resurfacing project. Funding and anticipated expenditures are detailed in Attachment 1. <br />
