<br />Bicycle, Pedestrian & Trails Committee Minutes April 25, 2022 <br />Page 3 of 5 <br /> <br />Member Maciel asked how the City’s data compared to other cities. Traffic Engineer <br />Tassano stated staff would request information from neighboring cities. He discussed <br />efforts to reduce collisions. Member Maciel urged remedies to meet needs. He asked the <br />impact of weather. Engineering Technician III Candland stated data on weather could be <br />reviewed. City Engineer Tassano stated information could be brought back to the <br />Committee. He anticipated the greatest number of collisions occurred when school went <br />back to session. Member Maciel suggested landscape remo val prior to roadway <br />modifications at Walmart. He asked the number of accidents at Stoneridge and Mall <br />Road. City Engineer Tassano stated one bicycle versus vehicle accident had occurred <br />and he explained that Caltrans would not allow bike lanes. He stated a mixed-use path <br />would be built on the 10x Genomics site. Member Piekarski asked the plan for the <br />intersection. City Engineer Tassano stated No Right Turn during pedestrian phase sign <br />was proposed. Member Maciel suggested one incident was not enough to trigger traffic <br />modifications. He proposed more enforcement and suggested potential grants. <br /> <br />Member Piekarski discussed limited police resources in Pleasanton. <br /> <br />Member Nelson asked if pedestrian crosswalk signs were available. City Engineer <br />Tassano stated he would look into that at upcoming trade shows. <br /> <br />Vice Chair Nibert discussed the successful improvements at the crosswalk at the high <br />school. He expressed concern about the left turn into Walmart and speed near freeways. <br />Engineering Technician III Candland stated incidents were reported when injuries were <br />involved. Vice Chair Nibert asked which incidents were subject to corrective action. <br />Engineering Technician III Candland and City Engineer Tassano explained that patterns, <br />recurrences and individual incidents were considered. Vice Chair Nibert discussed his <br />positive experience with roundabouts in Australia. In response to Vice Chair Nibert, City <br />Engineer Tassano stated he was not aware of industry data specific to Pleasanton or tri- <br />valley. <br /> <br />Member Piekarski requested information on severity of injuries. City Engineer Tassano <br />referenced the degree of injury information. Associate Traffic Engineer Nelson discussed <br />the distribution of the annual report.
