BACKGROUND
The City holds its General Municipal Election the first Tuesday after the first Monday in
November in each even -numbered year for the purpose of electing municipal officers —
a Mayor and two Councilmembers. Along with adopting the required resolution calling
the November 8, 2022, election, staff recommends the Council request consent from
the County of Alameda Board of Supervisors to consolidate with the Statewide General
Election and for the Registrar of Voters to render specific services to the City related to
conducting the election.
State law also requires adoption of a resolution regulating candidate statements. The
most current resolution, adopted in 2018, requires minor revisions to reflect terminology
changes in the Elections Code.
Consistent with past elections and state law, candidates will pay a $25 filing fee and a
$600 deposit for the optional candidate statements. The estimated cost associated with
printing and translating the statement is $1,200 based on the 2020 election with final
costs to be provided by the County.
The nomination period for all offices opens Monday, July 18, 2022, and closes Friday,
August 12, 2022, at 5 p.m. unless extended pursuant to Elections Code section 10225.
Submitted by: Fiscal Review:
eftnw ' Mahin Shah
City Clerk Interim Director of Finance
Attachments:
1.
